Use all your Fridays up in a week.

A Baxter: "my Grandmother had a word for those guys: nice guys, old fashioned guys, the kind of guys who wear sock garters, guys who get hay fever from raking the leaves, the kind of guy you settle for because you can't be with the one you love. "

The Baxter is one of my most favorite movies. It has it all: wit, weirdness, love, comedy, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Michelle Williams, Elizabeth Banks, and the list goes on and on. Here are some clips and I hope that you fall in love with this film, too.

I still want to learn this tune on the piano and sing it sometime. It is so sweet.

Disaster.

Japan. This is just so horrible. All day, since 6AM this morning, I have been thinking about it and watching the news. I read the articles and watched the videos and cried. I cannot imagine such destruction happening in California. What would I do? What would I take if I had to evacuate in a hurry? I live near a harbor in Oakland, so I was really worried this morning about the aftermath hitting California. Everything ended up being fine around here but there were some fatalities and damaged boats north and south of me. My thoughts are definitely with the countries and the people affected by the earthquake/tsunami. I'm not sure what else to say except that I am grateful to have what I have and to be alive.

Truly inspired

While surfing the www one night, I came across a few blogs of some extraordinary women. I went from one to the next, as you tend to do with all the lovely links provided on blogs these days. I have been a fan of Kind Over Matter for a little while but had neglected to check in lately. I find it incredibly motivating and reassuring to read the words that these women write and those they choose to showcase on their websites. It isn't all sugar coated or superficial in the least. These are people who found their way through struggle and decided to share their experience as well as their hopes for the future. And all this was done through a blog! I am sure I will come across many more amazing and inspiring blogs in the future but I am new here so the ones listed are just the beginning. I hope that you take the time to check in with these blogs because they can really cheer a girl (like me) up.

If you go to this site, I will most definitely be
participating in Happiness Week this month.
You should too.
Let's get happy, people!

Cardigan craze.

I love ALL these cardigans from GAP.
I own the burnt sienna one at the top and am kind of obsessed with it. I find that I have an undeniable weakness for cardigans, little black dresses, ballerina flats, loose striped t-shirts, vintage inspired floral collared button up blouses and sun dresses. I will go shopping and buy a version of each almost every time. I just can't help myself.

What are your fashion weaknesses?

Such cute little babes.

Lately, I've been grooving to the tambourine shakin', slow singin', echoe lovin' ways of the Smith Westerns.
Specifically their album Dye It Blonde.

Here they are in all their glory (in a tree?):
 Cameron, Cullen and Max

They are quite handsome but I can't help but think that they are a little young for me. (I mean, come on, who can resist the long, careless hair in their eyes?!..Or the Jew fro, depending on your taste.) BUT they weren't old enough to buy a beer when they released their first album in 2009. I suppose their baby faces and youthful lyrics are what draws me to them. They're like my little brother's cute friends that I make fun of but secretly think they are much cooler than me. And I would most definitely buy them a beer.

Ok, ok another picture.
But really, their music is good too! Dance party!
